Empowering the Journalists of Tomorrow – latakoo’s Partnership with Temple University

By Paul Adrian, latakoo Co-founder and CEO

Team latakoo believes in the power of journalism. Objective, fact-based reporting informs and connects communities in a way that makes democracies work. And that’s good for all of us.

Journalism is a profession. It’s not a hobby nor a side-gig nor a way to get famous. Rather, to be a journalist requires a person to seek continuous training and to follow a code of ethics.

That’s why latakoo is partnering with Temple University—a leader in journalism education. Together,  our technology company and the university are preparing the next generation of storytellers by giving them the tools and skills they need to thrive in a fast-evolving media landscape.

A Revolution in Journalism Education

It began last year when Paul Gluck, General Manager of Temple University Television (TUTV) and the latakoo team,  envisioned a groundbreaking collaboration. Temple, home to a top-tier journalism program, sought a way to modernize how its students learn the craft of storytelling. latakoo’s cutting-edge video workflow platform offered the perfect solution.

By summer 2024, this partnership was making waves. Temple students, armed with latakoo’s technology, were covering the Paris Olympics, reporting live from the Arc de Triomphe and sending high-quality video back to Philadelphia in real time.

“Our students are now operating like professionals. The transition from classroom to newsroom will be seamless, and that is invaluable.” Says Gluck.

latakoo is honored to partner with Temple University, which is a beacon of excellence in journalism education. Temple’s storied reputation reflects a commitment to preparing the next generation of storytellers for the challenges ahead. In collaboration with latakoo, students now work with the same advanced tools used by broadcast professionals and content creators in the field, gaining real-world experience that bridges the gap between the classroom and the newsroom.

Technology That Makes a Difference

latakoo’s platform simplifies the complexities of modern journalism. Tasks like transferring large video files, transcribing interviews, translating content, and editing clips become effortless. Collaborate, then share the final story with a link or automatically deliver your files to a Content Management System. latakoo seamlessly integrates with broadcast professional asset managers  and productivity software.

It’s also secure. You can customize access controls for each person on your team depending on their role and needs. latakoo delivers advanced encryption, authentication, and data integrity checks.

For Temple’s students, it means more time spent crafting impactful stories and less time wrestling with logistics.

“Temple students will be ready to walk right into any major news operation, win the job, and contribute immediately because Temple is investing in a technology that is already trusted by broadcasters and content creators around the world,” said latakoo Co-founder & President Jade Kurian. “latakoo gives them the time to focus on story-telling, rather than worry about the complexities of file transfer and media workflow.”

“This isn’t just about what students are learning; it’s about who they are becoming. With latakoo by their side, the journalists of tomorrow are writing their future today.”

-Paul Gluck, Associate Professor of Practice Dept. of Media Studies and Production at Temple University’s Klein College of Media and Communication & General Manager of Temple University Television.

Real-World Preparation

What sets this partnership apart is its real-world impact. Temple students now use the same tools as leading broadcasters at two news stations in Philadelphia. This hands-on experience prepares them to excel from day one in their professional careers.  It also allows them to exchange content with professionals who may use their work on air and keep an eye on budding talent about to graduate.

Gluck sees it as more than just an upgrade in technology.  “This partnership ensures our students graduate ready to contribute meaningfully to the media landscape,” he says.

The benefits of the collaboration:

  • Industry-Standard Tools: Students work with technology they’ll encounter in newsrooms around the world.
  • Professional Connections: latakoo links Temple students with local broadcasters, opening doors to internships, mentoring and jobs.
  • Expert Guidance: latakoo offers students exclusive educational content and personal insights from seasoned journalists, enhances their learning experience.

latakoo is committed to providing students the most up-to-date technology and education. It offers students access to a growing library of first-hand lessons and experiences from current and former award-winning broadcasters.

The educational content varies from how to cover political news to best practices reporting in the field to how to responsibly use artificial intelligence in investigations and breaking news.

A National Vision

latakoo and Temple envision a nationwide network of connected universities.   Journalism students will use the platform to collaborate across campuses, producing newscasts with regional and national content, and learning from one another in ways never before possible.

What started as a solution for Temple students to cover the Olympics has grown into a long-term partnership.  We believe future students will benefit from this revolutionary relationship between a technology company and an institute of higher learning..

Built by Journalists. Trusted by the World.

latakoo’s mission is deeply rooted in journalism. Jade Kurian and I both spent a couple decades as reporters before co-founding latakoo.   We get what it’s like to start the day with a blank sheet of paper and to end the same day after having filed a half-dozen live and recorded reports on the big story of the day. We’ve hired a slew of people with exactly the same backgrounds – reporters and photographers and editors who know what it’s like to repeatedly produce accurate, insightful and meaningful stories on deadline. Based on our collective experience, the latakoo platform is built to make the lives of journalists easier through cutting edge technology and the power of collaboration that is fully integrated with all the tools used to produce newscasts.  The latakoo  platform doesn’t just solve problems—it empowers storytellers.

Success You Can See

We believe in journalism’s power to shape society. By equipping students with the right tools, we’re investing in a future where truth and storytelling thrive.

The results of our partnership is  already evident. During the Paris Olympics, Temple students’ coverage stood shoulder-to-shoulder with that of seasoned professionals. The experience wasn’t just a lesson—it was a defining moment in their young careers.

The Bigger Picture

This collaboration highlights what’s possible when academia, industry and technology work together. At its heart, this partnership is about empowering students to become ethical, analytical, and creative leaders in a multimedia world. Providing students with industry-standard tools ensures they graduate ready to make an impact. This is about shaping the future of journalism

Together with Temple University, we are shaping the future of journalism—one student, one story, one breakthrough at a time.
